From Impact to Adjustment: Swift Implementation of Destroyed Property

This session examines the assessment and valuation response to destroyed property resulting from natural disasters, using recent flood events in Whatcom and Skagit Counties as a case study. The presentation focuses on how assessor offices rapidly identified impacted properties, conducted field review, applied valuation adjustments, and processed changes within PACS to provide timely tax relief to affected taxpayers.

While flood impacts are used as the primary example, the approach discussed is applicable to other natural disasters, including fire, landslides, wind events, and similar casualty losses.
